VENUS.NET is a “What You See Is What You Get” (WYSIWYG) Training
Content Development program developed by LSI and designed
specifically to build web-based training.
Venus.NET
courseware is designed for maximum versatility. The courseware
may be viewed in any of the following methods:
Served over the Internet or Intranet via a web server.
Played over a LAN/WAN (Suitable for school house use).
Played locally from a hard disk.
Played directly from a CD-ROM.
With over seven years of application improvements, Venus.Net is
a third-generation toolset used in the production of web-based
training. The original toolset was developed using Shocked
Authorware in a database-centric Authorware engine. It was
replaced by Venus~DT, which incorporated a replica of the
Authorware engine interface and onscreen functionality.
Venus.Net has taken Venus~DT to the next level, producing SCORM
1.2 and SCORM 2004 web-based content, plus adding enhancements
to the features of both Venus~DT and previous Authorware
courseware. Venus.Net was developed in Microsoft’s C#
programming language and is fully backwards compatible with all
courseware developed with Venus~DT.
Venus.NET provides both project level and personal preferences
for a user-friendly interface, allowing each user to customize
their own interface settings. Editor and courseware backgrounds,
fonts, highlighting, and many other facets can be set to ensure
that contrast between web pages and editor controls is “easy on
the eyes.”
By passing parameters to pre-written high-level commands, the
user interface provides simple point and click functionality to
generate courseware interactivity. This methodology enables
novice users to easily write Level 2 and Level 3 interactive
courseware within days. Using some of the more complex
high-level commands, Level 4 courseware and a level of
intelligence can also be built into the web pages.
Venus.NET provides utilities for complete SCORM 1.2 and SCORM
2004 compliance. To meet each customer’s needs, learning object
metadata can be assigned to all levels of the organized content
using customized templates. Venus.NET fully supports SCORM
communication and can set any valid value to or from any SCORM-compliant
LMS.
Venus.NET courseware contains elements that track all user
actions, enabling the courseware to make decisions based on
those user actions. This gives Venus.NET the ability to create
smart web pages and build scenarios based on user actions.
Troubleshooting or Fault Assessment exercises can be
incorporated into the courseware with these techniques.
Testing modules can be developed with Venus.NET. Short review or
check-on-learning questions can be easily inserted into the
courseware using matching, drag-and-drop, or multiple-choice
style questions. Pretests, post tests and performance tests can
also be built within a SCO, or as a freestanding SCO. Tests and
test questions can contain the following features:
Select questions randomly from a bank of questions.
Provide weighted test questions.
Set timing limitations for a test.
Bookmark questions to answer at a later time.
Provide Pause and Resume functions during a test.
Direct interactions, scores, and statuses to the LMS.
Review questions and answers (within the SCO) after a test
has been graded.
Provide remediation.
Award a courseware certificate.
Testing features can be customized to fit customer needs.
Venus.NET is a complete courseware development system. Combined
with the Venus Learning Management online review system, it
provides a complete solution for management and development of
web-based courseware.
Venus.NET is the ideal tool for the non-programmer to program
and maintain interactive web courses. Built-in references and
help files give the user everything needed to build and maintain
highly interactive web pages. Venus.NET is a perfect training
development and life cycle maintenance tool to keep your
web-base training up-to-date for years to come.
