Naval Surface Warfare Programs

LSI provides crew familiarization Computer-Based Training (CBT) for new construction DDG 51 class destroyers as well as training for the U.S. Navy’s newest destroyer, DDG 1000.

LSI is currently building the training for the Navy’s new Integrated Power System (IPS). This innovative approach replaces the reduction gear and drive train with an electric motor drive. The IPS is a fundamental change in naval combatant construction. LSI is building over 300 hours of courseware to provide the essential training required to operate this innovative engineering plant.

LSI is the prime contractor for the U.S. Navy’s Engineering Plant Operators Continuum (EPOC). This project consists of over 1,200 hours of interactive courseware built for the Center for Naval Engineering in Norfolk, VA. The courseware is fully Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) and Integrated Learning Environment (ILE) compliant running on the Navy Knowledge Online (NKO) website. The Journeyman portion of the project provides training for naval engineers of all ratings using the Navy Integrated Learning Environment (ILE) “Learn, Explore, Practice” model. This innovative course uses Computer-Based Training (CBT) to provide knowledge-based training -- the learn portion of the model, followed by application lessons that allow the student to explore how systems operate. Finally, the student uses training aid and scenario lessons to practice the skills learned in the training. The second portion of the project is the Engineering Plant Managers (EPM) course which consists of nearly 200 hours of interactive courseware. The EPM course will augment the current Senior Enlisted Propulsion Engineering Course (SEPEC) and is scheduled for completion in June 2010.

LSI also develops training for the Gigabit Ethernet Data Management System (GEDMS). This new high speed internet protocol (IP) switch will be installed in new construction DDG 51s and then back fitted for commissioned vessels. LSI is providing Computer-Based Training (CBT) as well as part task trainers that will outfit a classroom for instruction in Dam Neck, VA in 2010.

LSI enjoys the advantages of an accomplished staff of highly trained, retired U.S. Navy professionals as well as extremely innovative software engineers and training specialists. Together our high performance team can provide the best in leading edge training technology for the navies of the world.

Working in concert with the Navy through our Integrated Process Teams (IPT), we develop training that is exciting and performance-based, with full simulation, tied directly to Fleet user mission requirements. The resulting courseware is deployable, so we can train personnel “just in time”—when and where needed.
