Chinook Training Device Program

LSI designs, develops, and delivers high fidelity Chinook helicopter training environments for the Program Management Office (PMO), Cargo Helicopters.  LSI uses Crash Damaged Aircraft (CDA) or CAT-B aircraft fuselages combined with simulated components to support all mechanical and electrical system tasks in a simulated environment increasing training capabilities and improving training effectiveness.  Our solutions require no original equipment manufacturer (OEM) software or components to generate the displays and signals needed to support completion of IETM tasks and rendering appropriate results.  Everything is simulated but transparent to the student.  This solution was recognized by US Army representatives in the 2011 US Army Aviation Logistics School (USAALS) Army Aviation Magazine to have “become a model of success for USAALS, PEO Aviation, and industry collaboration.”

LSI delivered ten CHMT10 (15U10), four CHMT30 (15U30), and four CHMT-EV (15F) training devices leveraging the engineering design and lessons learned from CHMT 10 devices to produce the CHMT 30 and subsequently the CHMT EV devices.  This leveraging provided the ability to adjust training models to allow the EV device to be used to train 15U tasks if desired.  These training devices are used to support initial and skill maintenance instruction for Helicopter Repairer and Aircraft Electrician Maintenance personnel.  These devices also support remove, install, and fault isolation scenarios for aircraft systems and subsystems.

Each CHMT training device consists of a Hardware Training Device (HTD) an Instructor Operator Station (IOS), and an Aviation Ground Power Unit (AGPU), and the capability to be synchronized with a Virtual Interactive Environment (VIE) training device.  This platform makes available two types of training tasks — instructor initiated actions that require no computer or simulation hardware interaction and instructor initiated system and component faults that are induced via the IOS software application.

The CHMT-10 Level Device provides training for 15U10 tasks, including component identification, system familiarization, 6 service tasks, 51 remove and install tasks, and 31 fault isolation procedures (FIPS).

The CHMT-30 Level Device provides training for 15U30 tasks, includes all 15U10 level tasks with the addition of 13 maintenance operational checks (MOCs) and 23 FIPs.

The CHMT-EV Level Device provides training for 15F10/30 tasks, includes all the functionality of the 30-level trainer plus the ability to do 30 more MOCS and an additional 118 FIPS.
